Do you believe in Magic? Do you ever wonder why you forgot how to be that little child who saw fresh powder on the ground and ran outside and went wild making snow angels and a fort, and sticking your tongue out to see if all those tiny snowflakes would tickle? If so, then come to Red River and be a child again, whatever your age. Restore that twinkle in your heart because there's magic in these mountains - of that you can be sure.

Everyone wants to be a kid at heart... you know you do. For most of us, our daily lives seem to embrace the word "routine" from morning to night and we forget sometimes what it was like to just plain have fun. Red River is fun!

When I was a child, at the first snowfall, the downtown department stores began to prepare their huge storefront windows for holiday merriment. There were blocks and blocks of animated snowy characters – animals, frolicking children in man-made snow, and Santa Claus in his workshop with all of his elves busy behind the glass, making sure they made glad the hearts of children and all who passed by. Snow crunched underfoot, as we walked from store to store, picking out gifts we small children felt would be just perfect for all our Aunts and Uncles, as well as Grammas Edith (both of mine were named Edith). Saucers full of giggling children could be seen tied to the bumpers of cars, as they slowly drove by. As you passed the restaurants, you could almost feel the warmth of wood stoves and hot chocolate beckoning to you, along with tasty morsels fit for a king and queen (which we all know we truly are). What fun those days were that created these memories that have lasted to this very moment in time. Red River is that kind of fun!

Here in this wintry, mountain town of Red River, you can return to those days of long ago and create new memories for you and your children, that will bring you back year after year, like so many families have been doing for generations. Stand in Brandenburg Park on a snowy night amidst the festive lights. Twirl and whirl beneath the twinkling star-studded skies. Walk down Main Street and all the side streets - shop, eat, party, ski, snowboard and more. Feel the community spirit and warm hospitality, with every door you walk through. Listen! You may even hear our Dickensian carolers, there to perform for your delight.

If you have not been here before, in the pages that follow you will learn of the many winter events that we offer and have created just for you. Go downtown and see the forest of Christmas trees and the gingerbread house in the park with twinkling lights to welcome you to Red River. Hop on a chairlift for the thrilling glide down the mountainside once you reach the top. Traverse the mountain paths by snowshoes. Grab a tube and swoosh down the snowy hill. Sit in the Lift House sipping a Hot Apple Pie and watch the torchlight parade skiers light up the night. Ride a frozen turkey down the hill on Thanksgiving Day or cross country ski through the Enchanted Forest by the light of the Christmas luminarias. Go to some of the many activities at our Winter Carnival - it's back! Attend our family-friendly Mardi Gras in the Mountains complete with beads, costumes, parades, balls and some great Cajun music and food. All-in-all, you will have the time of your life and stay forever young at heart.
