The beauty and wonder of nature in the high country is reflected in the art work that can be seen in Red River. With different styles and categories, from impressionism to folk art, and in a variety of mediums, the desire to communicate visions of reality, truth, beauty, fantasy and, above all, the artist's experience is on display around town.
RED RIVER GALLERY OF FINE ART
Located on Pioneer Road, across from the Red Chair Lift and the Lift House, Red River Gallery of Fine Arts features the works of internationally recognized painter and sculpture Kenneth Wyatt. In addition to original paintings and sculpture, the gallery also offers prints, books, jewelry and a wide variety of gift items, all from the hands of Kenneth Wyatt and his talented family. Of particular interest are Wyatt's famous paintings of The Apostles, a monumental volume of work that has inspired world acclaim.
NORTH WIND
In its first year of operation, the North Wind Gallery is located on East Main Street and specializes in the works of Southwest artists and craftspeople, like Red River's Vernie Boren. The gallery also features finely painted Native American drums, pottery and artwork, as well as a large display of crosses and religious art.
MOON RIVER GIFTS
Formerly Blue Moon, Too, Moon River Gifts is located on East Main across the street from North Wind and offers a variety of pottery and gifts, as well as the artwork of local and region artists. Work on display includes that of Rick Fowler, Leroy Featherston, Steve Johnson and New Mexico wildlife artist Susan Norris of Raton.
HAWK VISIONS
Owned by Native American artist Rising Starr Quall, who moved here from Alaska, the gallery features drums, beaded chokers, bags, earrings, Native American craftwork and Native music on CD. It is located across the street from Moon River Gifts.
THE BLACK CROW
Find the yellow building on the banks of Bitter Creek and you'll find the Black Crow Coffee House and Gallery. Have a cup of espresso or a latte and enjoy the folk art of Northern New Mexico and South America. Coffee House entertainment can also be found on weekends.
THE KNOT HOLE
On the corner of Main and Copper King Trail, the Knot Hole features hand crafted furniture as well as the wood carvings of Peter Wooten.
BEAR NECESSITIES
On East Main you'll find modern folk art in the form of chainsaw-carved bears, and other related gift items. Look for the bears out front.
