A Snowy Winter Welcome

TAKE A PICTURE

It’s a picture postcard scene, here, at the top of the world. With a blanket of white and a winter chill on the breeze, Red River becomes a wonderland of natural beauty, as well as a playground for snowsport enthusiasts of all ages.

Nestled in a scenic valley high in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Northern New Mexico, Red River offers a wide variety of lodging, dining and shopping, the perfect base of operation for any winter holiday.

Founded in 1895 by rainbow chasers looking for a pot of gold in the stream beds and in the rocky canyon walls, Red River City has been a family resort for ninety-five years and a winter paradise for over forty years. During the summer, it has fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding and a cool climate, day or night, providing visitors with a place to retreat from the summer heat and enjoy being alive.

Come winter, the town shifts gears, welcoming the warriors of winter who cover the valley with enchanted precipitation in the form of crystalline snow, creating spectacular panoramas and up-close magic in every tree and on every craggy stone slope.

With two ski areas - the Red River Ski Area and the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area - and plenty of access to the snowcapped peaks and meadows via snowshoes or snowmobiles, the town offers excitement to the adventurous, but also small town serenity to anyone seeking to relax.

To those of us who dwell in Red River year-round, winter is a vital part of the life cycle of Planet Earth, providing the basic elements that are necessary for balance in the universe. In the sound of the falling snow resides the silence that allows us to hear the heartbeat of Mother Earth. We welcome you to join us and listen.
