There are four ATM machines in town: J.Griffin Co. Emporium on Main Street (look for the windmill), Der Markt, Centinel Bank at the corner of Main and Copper King Trail, and the Red River Ski Area chalet.

The Red River Trolley runs during the daylight hours throughout the winter season, beginning full time just before Christmas, stopping at lodges, as well as anywhere a group of riders are waiting. No charge.

DIAL 911 FOR EMERGENCY HELP

In the event of emergencies, call the three-digit number 911 and help will be headed in your direction. Trained personnel (Police, Fire, Search and Rescue, and Medical Response) are just a few minutes away. Red River is blessed with caring, well-trained individuals who are here to see that your time in our town is as enjoyable as possible.

FEELIN' FUNKY?

You've just arrived in Red River - altitude 8,750 feet - and you feel hung over, but you haven't had a single drink. (Or perhaps you're feeling a wee bit fuzzy and "out of sorts," with a headache, nausea, poor appetite, run-down feeling and shortness of breath with exertion. You may be experiencing a mild case of Altitude Illness. Simple fix? Take an aspirin for headache, Benadryl for nausea and avoid all alcohol.

Altitude illness is not an unusual situation, but there's no need to let it spoil your trip. Treatment is available which can have you feeling great in a short period of time.

Altitude illness is usually preventable if ascent is slow. That's seldom the case, however, for skiers who proceed directly to, and sleep at ski areas. Persons travelling above 8,000 feet (which includes Red River Ski Area, the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area, Taos Ski Valley and Angel Fire) are most likely to be symptomatic. The chances increase to about 15% when sleeping above 8,000 feet. Being in excellent physical condition has no bearing on one's ability to acclimate to altitude.

Mogul Medical is Red River's full-service medical clinic, with special expertise in the treatment of Altitude Illness and Sports Injuries. They are located in the lifthouse of the Red River Ski Area - at the foot of "The Face" - and can be reached at 505-754-2379.

St. Edwin's in the Snow WORSHIP IN YOUR OWN FASHION

Worship services are held in Red River on a regular basis at the non-denominational Faith Mountain Fellowship Church (look for the white steeple) at River Street and Copper King Trail, and at the First Baptist Church of Red River, held in St. Edwin's Catholic Church on Silver Bell Trail. St. Anthony's Catholic Church (Questa) conducts mass at St. Edwin's also.

Check the Bulletin Board page of the Red River Miner, Red River's weekly paper, for information on the time of services.
