In addition to skiing specials throughout the Winter season, RRSA will host some special events and celebrations that guarantee great winter fun.
Opening Day, traditionally the day before Thanksgiving, will see the Frozen Turkey Race on Turkey Day. The first Torchlight Parade of the year is set for that Saturday, and for every Saturday night of the season down The Face.
The most popular Winter Carnival event has become the “Race The Face” Snowmobile Hill Climb, which features the powerful sleds challenging the mountain for bragging rights in several categories for women and men.
A new event joins the Carnival calendar this year. The Cardboard Derby will see contestants piloting imaginative vessels created using only cardboard, duct tape, string or twine and decorated with paint. They will hurtle down the mountain in their creations, attempting to stop on the bull’s eye. It’s style and accuracy that matter, not speed.
Another new event or a revival from the good ol’ days? The Ski Ranch Rodeo on Presidents’ Day Weekend, February 15, will see three-person tag teams in action. The 1st team member will rope a dummie’s calf, ski to the 2nd team member who will brand the calf, and then the 3rd member will ride a saddle barrel on skis across the finish line. Sounds easy, you say? Wait until you see it in action!
The 29th edition of Mardi Gras in the Mountains is scheduled for February 20-25, 2020, so don’t be surprised if you see MG beads in the trees as you ride the chair lifts at RRSA. It’s always a great time before Spring Break in March!
