Bearly Awake is located at 604 E. Main next to the Bear Shop, in the building occupied by Anita’s fashions and gifts for the past 21 years. The new business will offer frozen yogurt with a self-serve bar of toppings, espresso, lattes and coffees (Grounds For Change organic brand) including ice coffee, as well as homemade Danish and “some secret items not yet to be revealed!”
Bearly Awake is the idea of long-time Red River residents Tori and Levi Curry. Levi has been in town since 1983 and has owned his own snow removal and lawn care business for the past 14 years. Tori grew up in the Questa/Red River area and was involved in retail before managing the office at Faith Mountain Fellowship Church for the past 17 years.
The Bearly Awake Coffee Co. has been in the planning stages for over five years. The idea has always been focused on frozen yogurt, after a trip to College Station, Texas, Tori took several years ago.
“Frozen yogurt had just come to Texas and I remember going into one of the shops and thinking ‘Red River needs one of these’ because there is nothing like it in town!”
As for owning a business, she decided it was time to “be her own boss and not answer to anyone but myself.”
She also likes the idea of being able to take time off for a few weeks during the offseasons. Plans call for indoor seating with tables and comfortable chairs and outdoor seating on the spacious lawn to take advantage of the scenic beauty of the Red River Valley.
