The annual Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival on September 23-25 has always featured live music as a part of the harvestfest spirit. This year it will again be paired with the 2nd Annual Red River Folk Festival in Brandenburg Park.
Last year’s festival included singer/songwriter James McMurtry, Max Gomez, Shannon McNally, and hONEyhoUSe, the incredible female singing group that originated in Red River. They began in the Lost Love Saloon as a unique acoustic trio combining the talents of three very diverse and seasoned artists who make the ground shake! Consisting of award-winning R&B/Gospel soulstress Hillary Smith, earthy Blues/Folk singer-songwriter Yvonne Perea, and Red River’s own sweet-voiced Mandy Buchanan, they were honored with NM Music Awards in 2012, repeated again in 2015 when they garnered two awards, including Best Song of the Year in the Americana category.
The Folkfest is the idea of Steve Heglund, Motherlode Saloon owner/operator and founder of the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Night festival. Steve has lived and worked in Red River for many, many moons and has been the guiding musical force in the Red River Valley dating back over 35+ years!
