Glamping, Camping & RV Fun

Yurt

Making up words: that’s how language evolves to communicate in our modern times. Glamping is short for glamorous camping and the Enchanted Forest X-Country Ski & Snowshoe area on Bobcat Pass is at the top of the Glamping list in New Mexico. Yurts provide an experience unlike any other. EFXC provides this special adventure of a lifetime. Step into a quiet time in the forest and a natural world. P.S. The stars are spectacular!

It’s not exactly roughing it but for many folks recreational vehicles (RVs) are more than summer fun. It’s a way of life, a gypsy culture with the freedom of mobility and the bonus of comfort. There are three RV facilities in town with hooks-ups. Located on the river, they each offer a different experience.

The town of Red River is surrounded by the Kit Carson National Forest, named for the American frontiersman who played a part in the United States history of the Southwest.

It covers 1.5 million acres, with elevations rising from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest point in the state of New Mexico.

Camping is a major attraction for the Carson. Thousands of people a year find the outdoor adventure to be rewarding and fulfilling. It presents the opportunity to take a step back into a gentler time when living in nature was the way of most people on the planet.

There are numerous campgrounds in the Carson. Some are easily accessible and some require a bit more effort to find and utilize.

In the immediate area of Red River on Highway 38 there is June Bug, Fawn Lakes, Elephant Rock,  Columbine and Goat Hill, which is located near the main entrance of the Moly Mine.

Some of these campgrounds are developed with restroom facilities and water and require a nightly fee, while other campgrounds are free.

You can, however, camp anywhere in the Carson Forest. Some restrictions do apply at different times of the year, so checking with the local Ranger Station is always a good idea.

One thing does not change, year after year.

Leave No Trace! Pack It In, Pack It Out!

Thousands of visitors to Carson National Forest have a tremendous impact on the land. Some are more respectful and some are oblivious to the damage that can be done to the natural world.

Minimize your impact, travel softly, leaving no trace of your visit so that future generations can enjoy the forest. If you love the natural world, respect it!
