“You’ll bring honor to us all.”

On the night of July 6th, the Community House lawn hosted yet another stunning “Movie on the Lawn” with a feature of the 1998 womanly warrior classic, Mulan. I honestly don’t remember if I had ever seen this movie in its entirety, but I truly have been missing out…this iconic yellow and red scheme has swept me into a new desire for cinema I didn’t know I had.

Such a powerhouse in the elements of: women’s roles, the bouts of war, the historical rivalries of the Chinese dynasties..just to name a few. From beginning to end, you are given real looks into how society built such a pedestal into elements aforementioned, seeing the beauties and the bedlams equally.

Much like the other 90’s Disney gems, the sprinkle of musical numbers in this film is exactly what it needs. Not too much to push other audiences away, and just enough to bring such character and progressive plot development..all the while being exceptional to listen to!

The voice acting: IMPECCABLE. Across the board, iconic voices melded with such reflective character designs. I wanted to give the emperor a hug. Just about every third woman I meet wants a Mushu tattoo. Shan-yu and the fellow huns’ eyes..s c a r y.

Just about one of the most beautiful villain takedowns I’ve ever seen. No spoilers, you just have to see this explosive climax *wink* *wink.*

I also appreciate the subtitles making sure to let me know all the *harrumphs* going on. Very fun.

“No matter how the wind howls, the mountain cannot bow to it.”
“Then you will kneel in pieces.”
That WRITING! Simply AMAZING!

You DON’T find a girl like that every dynasty. Watch this with your family, a dear friend, or a nice night on your own. Available on Disney+ for all ages!
